Roanoke, VA, October 14, 2009: Douglas Walker announced today that two former members of Roanoke City Council are endorsing his bid for election as the City of Roanoke’s Commissioner of the Revenue.
“Brenda McDaniel and Bev Fitzpatrick both have endorsed my campaign,” stated Walker. “I am most grateful for their belief in me and my efforts to serve the citizens of Roanoke as their Commissioner.”
Fitzpatrick and McDaniel said as former members of council, they have a particular awareness of the need to have equity in the assessment of business and industry in the City of Roanoke and applaud Walker’s promise to conduct an audit of the Commissioner’s office.
They added, “An audit should be the cornerstone of any department taking the taxpayers’ funding. It is needed to ensure that each business in the city is treated equitably and that all are paying their appropriate tax obligations. We believe that Douglas Walker understands this. His promise to conduct an audit is refreshing and meets the standard of integrity we taxpayers should expect.”

Virginia’s Public Access Project Releases 2009 Honor Roll
Roanoke, VA, August 21, 2009: At 1:00PM yesterday the Virginia Public Access Project, VPAP, released its Honor Roll of local candidates who e-file their campaign finance reports. In doing so VPAP has recognized those candidates who have embraced full disclosure and have made their campaign’s financial records easily accessible to the public. In local races candidates are permitted to file with the registrar; however these records are not electronically accessible. Noticeably absent from this list was Mr. Walker’s opponent Sherman Holland. Holland’s office has undergone previous scrutiny from the media for lack of transparency in response to Municipal Auditor Drew Harmon’s report in 2005, and Holland’s subsequent decision to ban Mr. Harmon from further interaction with the Commissioner’s Office.

You may have noticed 4 “Walker for Commissioner” billboards have gone up in the city in the last few days. As part of our campaign we will have the 4 current locations, and 6 more that will go up 8 weeks before the election. The current locations are: North and South Williamson, Peters Creek just North of the Orange Avenue intersection, and Orange Avenue just East of Melrose. The next 6 locations have not yet been determined, we will keep you posted! Here is a picture in case you haven’t seen the real thing.
Last night at the Roanoke City Mass Meeting Douglas Walker was officially nominated to run for Commissioner of Revenue. Douglas is working very hard and offers a much needed contrast to the incumbent. This election will be about what can be achieved for the citizens of Roanoke, we strongly believe that Douglas is the best candidate for this position. Thank you for all of your support in getting us to this point.
Check out this interview with the Star City Harbinger. Mr. Walker certainly put it all on the table. The Harbinger is awaiting Mr. Holland’s response. Thank you to Hank Bostwick for the chance to answer these questions.
