Welcome to Douglas Walker 2009! In the following pages you will find information about my candidacy for Commissioner of Revenue, as well as some historical information about me.
My candidacy is about improving the City of Roanoke. For too long we have let substandard leadership steer the direction of our Commissioner’s office. The responsibilities of the Commissioner of Revenue are far too important to let party politics and excuse making continue unchecked. The time has come for a true leader to take this office. The Citizens of Roanoke deserve a Commissioner that works hard every day to efficiently and accurately collect all of the tax revenue due the city.
Taking any entity from good to great requires the kind of leadership that does not hide from responsibility, but embraces it. It requires leadership that does not make excuses for criticism but learns from it, and most importantly requires the kind of leadership that does not allow sound organizational business practices to take a back seat to political expediency.
